Event Date
The members of SOMA (Seminar Outreach for Minority Advocacy) invite College of Biological Sciences graduate students to attend the student-led 9th Annual SOMA Summit: "Diverse Paths toward Advanced STEM Careers" on Thursday, May 21 from 10:30 AM-1:15 PM at the Graduate Center (Walker Hall, Room 1220).
Join us for talks and panel discussions featuring PhD speakers from diverse backgrounds in the biological sciences, sharing their journeys to impactful careers in academia, industry, and policy. Whether you're actively thinking about life after grad school or just want to hear how others navigate the tough job markets, this is a great space to get real perspectives and ask candid questions.
The morning kicks off with industry speakers and student-led panels over coffee and pastries, followed by a free lunch and chat with a UCD career center representative about their resources specific to graduate students. The afternoon wraps up with academic speakers and another panel. You are welcome to drop-in for a segment of the time if you have experiments to run!
Speakers are coming from UC Davis academic positions, Denali Therapeutics, and the California Council for Science & Technology. All speakers have received PhDs in various biological sciences.
Space is limited to 40 people, so please RSVP to secure your spot — and so we can make sure there's enough food!
