My research focuses on understanding plant responses to variable and changing environments and identifying the traits and mechanisms driving them. Further, I seek understand the consequences of those responses across scales, from individual fitness to population dynamics to patterns of diversity in communities and beyond. My research is strongly driven by theory and lies at the interface of physiology, demography, ecology, and evolution. To scale across these levels of organization, I use empirical studies, including short-term experiments and long-term observations, as well as ecological and statistical models.
