Sergio Hidalgo, Postdoctoral Fellow, University of California, Davis, presents "The ever-changing brain: insights into the mechanisms of seasonal plasticity".

Dr. Hidalgo is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Entomology and Nematology at UC Davis. He received his BSc, MSc, and PhD from Pontifical Catholic University (Chile), working with Dr. Jorge Campusano, examining the neurochemical and molecular changes underlying sensory and behavioral impairments observed in Drosophila genetic models of schizophrenia. As part of a dual degree, he also obtained a PhD in Physiology and Pharmacology from the University of Bristol (UK), working with Dr. James Hodge, investigating the contribution of schizophrenia-associated genes to circadian locomotor activity and memory in Drosophila. In 2020, he joined Dr. Chiu’s lab working on understanding how the brain senses and processes seasonal environmental cues. Dr. Hidalgo has received several awards, including a Pew Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2021 and a K99/R00 pathway-to-independence award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke in 2023.
