The Advancing Diversity in Aging Research (ADAR) program aims to increase the diversity of undergraduate students that pursue advanced degrees and research careers in aging-related areas.
Eligibility for the ADAR program is restricted to BUSP students, who apply to the ADAR program in winter quarter of their freshman year. Participation in ADAR starts the summer after freshmen year and extends through spring of sophomore year, in conjunction with BUSP.
In addition to participating in the BUSP sophomore curriculum, ADAR students attend special aging-related research seminars, and engage in paid internships in an aging-related research lab.
ADAR and ADAR-Honors are funded by the National Institute on Aging.
Support
ADAR Provides:
- summer stipend of $3,840 to support activities the summer after the freshman year
- funds (up to $1,200 per quarter) for sophomores to participate in aging research
- academic and advising support
ADAR Scholar Obligations:
- commit 12 months to the program
- engage in research at least 10 hours per week during the academic year
- attend all regularly scheduled meetings, program workshops and functions
- fully participate in the ADAR/BUSP curriculum
- meet regularly with the ADAR adviser
- maintain competitive GPA
- actively engage in their research lab, attend lab meetings etc.
Eligibility
To be eligible for ADAR, a student must meet the following requirements:
- Be a member of BUSP and belong to a group that is underrepresented in the biomedical, clinical, behavioral and social sciences.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher
- Are able to commit 12 consecutive months to training, starting in summer session 1 after freshman year
- Have U.S. citizenship or permanent U.S. residency\
